Nagri Prefecture lies in the western Tibet. The most attracting sites are Mt. Kailash, Lake Manasarovar and Guge Kingdom. Travelers going to Nagri area are mostly either pilgrims or trekking lovers. Plan the trip to Kailash during the fullmoon. You will feel the most authentic experience and local people's devotion for their religion.

Lake Banggongtso

Lake Banggongtso means "the long and narrow goose lake" in Tibetan language. The bird island, where thousands of gulls inhabit, is located in the center of the lake. When spring comes, and warm air blows into the Ngari Plateau, groups of birds that have migrated from the cold plateau to the warm Southern Asian continent in the previous winter, will fly back to the island. The best time to observe birds is from May to September.

Lake Manasarovar

Lake Manasarova lies at 4,556 m above sea level, making it the highest fresh-water lake in the world. Like Mount Kailash (Holy Mountain), Lake Manasasarovar (Holy Lake) is a place of pilgrimage, attracting religious people from Tibet, India, Nepal, and the other neighboring countries. The lake, in Hindu religious belief, is also supposed to be the summer abode of swans. Considered as sacred birds, the swans represent wisdom and beauty. When in the Year of Goat, pilgrims believe that if they can circle the Lake Manasarovar during the fullmoon time, it will wash away all the sins and troubles away and will be blessed. For Indian pilgrims, it would be an honor to baptize in the lake.

Mount Kailash

Mount Kailash is called Gangs Rinpoche in Tibetan language, meaning "precious jewel of snows". The name originates from the year-round snow on its peak and its historical religious connections. Mount Kailash is the highest peak in the massive Gangdise Mountain Range with an altitude over 6,600m. Seen from the south, the vertical ice trough and horizontal rock formation combine as the Buddhist symbol Swastika ' 卐 ', which represents the eternal power of Buddha. When in the Year of Horse, it's quite important to trek around Mt. Kailash based on the religion. Thousands of travelers will swarm to the mountain. The trekking normally takes 3 days. If you would like to visit Mt. Kailash and Manasarovar Lake, joining in the Kailash and Manasarovar 15 Days Tour will be a wise choice.

Notice: The inner kora is not open to foreign travelers. Outer kora is available to visit.
