Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world with an altitude of 8,848.13 meters' altitude, is also called Qomolangma in Tibetan, meaning "Holy Mother". It enjoys the fame of "the ridge of the world" and the third pole in the world. It is shaped like a pyramid and lies on the border of China and Nepal, capped with snow year-around. When planning a trip to Tibet, don't miss the chance to visit Mount Everest. However, if you want to visit the Mount Qomolangma in Tibet, you need a Tibet Travel Permit and an Alien's Travel Permit. The former allows you to enter Tibet legally, while the latter allows you to visit restricted areas such as the Everest Base Camp.

How to Get Travel Permit for Mount Everest Visit?

1. Tibet Travel Permit

Travel Permits are essential for foreign tourists to enter Tibet, without which they cannot enter Tibet by plane, train or road. You can only apply for a Tibet Travel Permit through a qualified Tibetan travel agency, as the application submitted in the name of an individual is not accepted by the authorities. The following is the procedure of applying for Tibet Travel Permit.

1) Discuss your Tibet tour plan and preferences with our travel consultant; agree with proposed tour itinerary and tour quotation and later sign the tour contract.

2) Find the Chinese Embassy close to you. Fill in the Chinese Visa application form. Prepare relevant travel document (such as your passport, personal photos and itinerary with hotel and flight confirmation). Submit your Chinese Visa application and pay visa fee and later get it.

3) Email the photo image of passport information page and of Chinese Visa page to your travel consultant who will help you submit the Tibet Permit application to Tibet Tourism Bureau. Processing of Tibet Permit takes 8-9 working days in Lhasa.

4) After our staff in Lhasa get your Tibet Permit, we will deliver it by express to your hotel in mainland China. Or in some extreme cases, our staff will give it to you in person at the railway station or airport.

2. Alien’s Travel Permit

In addition to the Tibet Travel Permit, you also need an Alien’s Travel Permit issued by the Public Security Bureau. Without this pass, visitors cannot even get to the Base Camp of Mount Qomolangma in Tibet. The application procedure is the same as the Tibet Travel Permit so you can let your agent to handle this for you as well.

How to Get Permits to Visit ABC from EBC?

With the above information, you can go to the EBC 5200-meters to experience the charm of Mount Everest. If you want to climb higher, such as ABC (Advance Base Camp) at 5,800 meters, you need to apply for a special climbing permit and hire a professional mountain guide.

If you plan to push your limits, you need to apply for a Tibet Hiking Permit. Our Tibet guide will assist you in submitting your permit application to the Tibet Mountaineering Association (TMA).
