Types of Chinese Visa

A Chinese visa is a permit issued by Chinese visa authorities to non-Chinese citizens for entry into, exit from and transit through China. Please choose the appropriate type of visa according to your main purpose of visiting China:


Purpose Types Instructions
Exchange,inspect,visit, etc. F People who go to China for exchange, visit, inspection and other activities.
Commercial trade activities M People who go to China for business and trade activities.
Travel L People who go to China for travel.
Family reunion, foster care for children;
Visit relatives living permanently in China
Q1 People who visit relatives or family members in China. It’s issued to relatives of Chinese citizens or foreigners with permanent residence permit residing in China. The stay in China is longer than 180 days.
 
"Family member" means spouse, parent, child, spouse of child, sibling, grandparent, maternal, grandchild and parent of spouse.
Q2 People who visit relatives/family members in China for a short time. The applicant shall be a relative of a Chinese citizen residing in China or a relative of a foreigner with permanent residence status in China. The stay in China for no more than 180 days.
Visit relatives working or studying in China;
Handle other personal affairs
S1 To visit foreigners residing in China for work, study or other reasons for a long period of time, the applicant shall be the spouse, parent, child under the age of 18 or parent of the spouse of the foreigner;
Persons required to reside in China for other private purposes;
Stay in China for more than 180 days.
S2 To visit foreigners residing in China for work, study or other reasons for a short period of time, the applicant shall be a family member of the foreigner;
Persons who need to stay in China for other private business;
Stay in China for no more than 180 days.
Work Z People who are to take up a post or employment in China, and their accompanying family members.
Commercial Performance
Transit G People who transit through China.
Perform international crew, aviation, shipping and road transport tasks C Crewmembers on international aviation, navigation and land transportation missions and their accompanying family members
Study, further study X1 People who study in China for a long time;
Stay in China for more than 180 days.
X2 People who study in China for a short time;
Stay in China for no more than 180 days.
Talent introduction R For high-level personnel and the need for high-quality personnel services.
Journalism J1 Journalists staying China for more than 180 days.
J2 Journalists who come to China for a short reporting trip for no more than 180 days.
Residence D People who are going to reside permanently in PRC.
